Entrance requirements

The Program seeks students who will strive for academic excellence and who are aware that they intend to go on to graduate or professional school. Potential candidates should have:

  • Combined SAT scores (Math + Critical Reading) of 1200 or better.
  • High school cumulative gradepoint average of 3.5 or better.
  • A statement of your educational plans (keeping in mind that The Honors Program is geared toward students who plan to go on to graduate or professional school).
  • A copy of your previous educational transcripts.
  • A writing sample (because of the focused nature of The Honors College curriculum, it will be most helpful if this can be an example of your work on a formal research paper).
  • A completed application form.
  • Two completed recommendation forms (preferably from teachers).

Transfer students who meet the above criteria AND who have completed 60 or fewer credit hours are encouraged to apply. Transfer students should have a cumulative gradepoint average of 3.0 or better in college coursework. For more information about our 60 credit cap, contact the Honors Program Office.
